Removing text from photos vs graphics

Graphics, slides and screenshots usually have flat or gradient backgrounds, and the on-device eraser makes text vanish without a trace. Photos with text over faces, products or architecture need a fill that continues edges, so use AI fill there. If you want to replace the text, erase it here first, then add new text in any editor.

Tips

  • Outlined or drop-shadowed text: make sure the brush covers the outline and shadow too.
  • For subtitles on a video, use remove text from video instead: it works across every frame.

Can AI remove text from a photo automatically?

Press Find text: an AI vision model returns boxes around every text area, which become your mask. You can adjust the mask before erasing.

Will it remove text from a scanned document?

Yes, for stamps, handwriting or highlights on a white page the on-device eraser is ideal. For removing a text watermark from a PDF file itself, use Remove watermark from PDF.

Does the text detector read or store my text?

It is only asked for box coordinates. The crop is processed for that one request and not stored by CleanMarks.
